No. Qi Men reads the moment you ask, not the moment you were born — which is what most sharply separates it from Bazi and Zi Wei Dou Shu. You can cast a board at any time without entering birth data. If you already have a saved chart you may attach it, so the reading can also reference your day master.
Which school do you use?
Rotating-plate hour-based Qi Men (轉盤時家奇門), Chai Bu (拆補法) for determining the Ju, the Yang-plate numerological tradition, 天禽 always lodged in 坤2, and true solar time with longitude and equation-of-time correction. All four are printed on every board.
Why does another app give me a different board for the same moment?
Almost always a difference of school rather than an error. The usual divergence is in determining the Ju: Chai Bu assigns every day to the solar term actually in force, while Zhi Run lets a five-day block carry across a term boundary. The two agree on most days and part company within a few days of a boundary. We use Chai Bu and say so, so you can check the difference yourself.
Can one board answer more than one question?
No. Qi Men holds that one question gets one moment and one board. Follow-ups stay within that board; a different matter needs a fresh cast. That constraint is not a limitation — it is what lets the method give a specific answer at all.
What costs what?

How is an hour rated open or closed?
Primarily by the Chief Gate on duty, which determines what mode of action is available in that two-hour window, with the best available direction as a tie-break. An hour that falls under 五不遇時 — the hour stem being the day stem’s 七殺 — is always rated hold, however open the rest of the board looks.
