Overall Read

Read together, the three cards describe someone already on the way. The Eight of Cups walks off with its back turned, the Two of Wands stands on the battlements holding a globe, the Three of Wands watches ships come home — this is not a spread about whether to go, but about how. For Lin Wanqing, a Bing Fire day master, both later cards are Fire, her own element: this decision is hers to steer, not one she is being pushed into.

Card-by-Card

Past · Eight of Cups (upright): Cups are Water, and Water restrains Bing Fire — what she is leaving is a security that held her too tightly. Not a bad place; one she has outgrown. Present · Two of Wands (upright): She is already comparing, weighing, holding the map of two lives. The card does not hurry her; it asks how clearly she has seen the land beyond the wall. Future · Three of Wands (upright): The ships are on their way back. What she has sent out will answer — but it takes waiting; this is not a card of overnight results.

Core Counsel

Turn “should I” into “on what terms”: write down the three things the new job has to give her, and ask about each one directly. Once the answers are in, the decision will make itself.
